Austrian Wine
Not only in Austria are the products of the Austrian winegrowers in great demand. Even abroad the character-strong wines have found enthusiasts. On a comparatively modest cultivated area of 55,000 hectares, Austrian winegrowers have cultivated a wine, which need not fear international comparison. Above all the 20 white and 10 red Austrian vine varieties are much desired abroad. Due to the geographical conditions, a strict wine law and the structure of the economy, the small and medium-size winegrower enterprises still dominate the scene. Their wines are consequently developed through much manual work and care. No wonder that the Austrian wines are far ahead of their competitors at international blind tastings. The wine growing areas in Austria concentrate in the eastern part of the country: Lower Austria, Burgenland , Styria and Vienna are the most important wine locations in Austria . In the hills of Vienna there is viticulture. In the outlying districts of Vienna you can taste this year’s wine in the rustic Heurigen. The restaurants, in which the winegrowers serve their young wine from the last vintage, are a popular destination for vacationers in Vienna. You can undertake a trip to the Viennese winegrowers individually or in a guided tour. From the vineyards you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Viennese basin.
