MuseumsQuartier

The MuseumsQuartier of Vienna – abbreviated to MQ and referred to by the Viennese as MuQua is one of the ten largest cultural areas in the world. It combines baroque buildings and new architecture, a magnificent scale of cultural design, various schools of art and local recreation to create a spectacular whole.

Two large art museums dominate the area: The Leopold museum, a white cube and the MUMOK museum of modern Art Foundation Ludwig Vienna, a black cube are positioned in an exciting architectural dialogue. The arts center offers contemporary exhibitions. The museum is also home to various festivals such as the Viennese Festival-weeks. In addition there is a modern development of international dance, the Architecture Center Vienna, production studios for new media, artist studios for "Artists in Residence", outstanding art and cultural facilities particularly for children (ZOOM SHOT child museum, theatre house for children, wienXtra kinderinfo), as well as additional different events and festivals such as the renowned film festival Viennale, the ImPulseDance festival and many other high class cultural events.

The central location, directly on the ring and opposite the Fine Art and Natural History museum, established the MQ as a cultural district in the city. Cafés, restaurants, generous open spaces and high-quality shops and bookshops, make the 60,000 m2 large area equally popular to Viennese and holiday-makers. Art center and local recreation area - a contrast, embodying Vienna.
