A 10-minute walk - and you're already in front of the impressing portal of the St. Stephan's cathedral. Five minutes by foot in the other direction - and you can take a ride with the Viennese Ferris wheel, in order to enjoy the wonderful view over the city. In 1560, the emperor Maximilian II declared the Prater to an imperial hunt and forest territory. Along the prater street he made land available for the building of accommodation for his hunt assistants and foresters. The consequent connection between Sweden place and Prater, was named - nomen est omen – Hunter’s Row (Jägerzeile).In the 18th century the Prater was opened to the people, one century later Hunter’s Row (Jägerzeile), with the support of wealthy Jewish citizens was developed to the Prachtstraße (Splendor Street) and received its final name: the Praterstrasse.
Perhaps today the Praterstrasse is no longer as completely splendorous as it used to be, but as an office and shopping street with its large and various culinary specialties and numerous restaurants and bars - from Fast Food to star rated restaurants, it still has a lot to offer.
